I want to change the world. Well, at least, my world. Our family is embarking on a new opportunity and adventure. For years, I have been involved with technology. However, up until now, I have been involved with technology primarily as a job.
Our family has now decided to allow God to move us in a new direction and apply my years of technology in the digital space into a vocation we like to call Oppermania (but we’ll come back to that).
One year ago, after reading Dan Miller’s 48 Days to the Work You Love, I had a vision. I was inspired by what Dan called a “vocation.” This concept of vocation as Dan puts it is your “calling”. Not just what you do for a living but the foundation of everything you do. If you haven’t read this book, I would highly recommend it. Without giving too much away, let me sum up.
In the book, Dan proposes that your vocation is your life’s calling. Everything you do to occupy your time should feed this.
A career, which most people have several throughout their lifetime, is just a piece of this calling. If you are wise, you align what you call your career to match your vocation, but it is not just about what you use to earn income. Career is multifaceted and encompasses all aspects of your life.
Finally, there are jobs that we each do day in and day out that are the basis for both the career as well as the vocation. Hopefully, that teased you just enough for you to still read the book but makes the point that my jobs and my careers have not been my vocation.
So, what does this have to do with you, you ask? Hopefully, everything.
What I have called my career has for too long been job like and has not been contributing to my calling which I believe is to be an entrepreneur. I was so inspired by Dan’s idea of vocation that my family and I have spent the last year of our lives building a new world. The Land of Oppermania.
Our family’s dream is that this land would be one of Family, Faith, and Fun. That it would be a place where our family can encourage, edify, and be an example to yours. A land where we can work side by side, my wife and each of our seven children, to create a place that families like yours and ours can call home.
What does this mean? For you, it means something exciting, a land of Family, Faith, and Fun. For us a new season of life. I want all I do as a father and a provider to contribute to the overall success of my family. But just as importantly the success of yours as well.
Our family wants to use the talents that we have been given to bring your family hope and laughter. We believe this new opportunity will provide you, our followers, with a healthy dose of life. A truly balanced life.
We have made the decision to allow our family to live out publicly so that you and yours may be able to share our tears, our triumphs, and our laughter. We want to enrich lives as a family and we encourage you to sign up for the ride and join us in the land of Oppermania.
Welcome to Oppermania, the Land of Family, Faith, and Fun.
